Floating Solar Plants

Floating Solar Plants

In Floating solar plant, solar panels are mounted on a structure that floats on a body of water, typically a lake such as drinking water reservoirs, irrigation canals or remediation, quarry lakes and tailing ponds. Such systems exist in China, France, India, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Japan and the United States.

Most Indian states lack land, but have more water for Floating Solar Photovoltaic (FSPV). Panels efficiency can be increase by installing solar on water due to lower temperatures that prevent overheating.

Reasons why floating solar power plants are developed in India:

Lack of land:

There Is lack of land in some states in India. But have more water. floating PV plants do not take up any land. This is the main reason of development of floating solar power plant in India.

Increase panel efficiency:

The cooling effect of the water close to the PV panels leads to an energy gain that ranges from 5% to 15%. Natural cooling can be increased by a water layer on the PV modules.

Shade avoiding:

The water surface is relatively open, so there is no shadow of trees and mountains etc.

Environmental benefits

The floating solar panel structure shades the body of water and reduces evaporation from these ponds, reservoirs and lakes.
